Through our Collaborative Projects, Rebuilding Together Baltimore works with other Baltimore housing agencies and nonprofit organizations to share the scope of work for homeowners with critical repair needs. Often, there are homeowners who do not qualify for specific programs offered by housing agencies due to their high level of need; however, through our partnership with the Baltimore Housing LIGHT program and other agencies, Rebuilding Together Baltimore is able to provide specific repairs that make homeowners eligible for other programs.
For example, if Mrs. Smith has a leaking roof, she may not qualify for Baltimore Housing’s Weatherization Assistance Program which could potentially address her other needs such as new windows or insulation. If Mrs. Smith were eligible and selected as a collaborative project with Rebuilding Together Baltimore, our organization would hire a contractor to repair the damaged roof or address the other home repair needs based on her ineligibility for the Weatherization program and thereby allow her to qualify for additional services.
Collaborative projects come in different shapes and sizes, and some involve volunteers and some involve contractors. These projects are managed on a case-by-case basis, and depend heavily on the amount of funding our organization currently has. For the past two years, our funding allowed us to work on several collaborative cases in the neighborhoods of Westport and Oliver through funding from the Abell Foundation.
